The 1997 romance classic Titanic is the perfect movie to get into the Valentines Day feels.

Why Titanic is the Perfect Valentine’s Day Movie

James Cameron’s 1997 romance Titanic is the perfect movie for getting in the Valentine’s Day feels. Titanic is based on the tragic shipwreck of April 1912 with a romantic twist. Two individuals, Jack Dawson and Rose DeWitt Bukater, from different social classes, fall in love on the ship and fight to be together.

Jack Dawson is a 20-year-old, poor third-class artist, traveler, and citizen of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. He won tickets to board the Titanic in a lucky game of poker against two Swedish men in Paris, France.

Rose is a 17-year-old high society girl from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania who has first-class passage on the Titanic ship.

Titanic plot

The movie starts with an older Rose DeWitt Bukater talking about Titanic and the man who saved her.

Rose boards the Titanic with her mother, Ruth DeWitt Bukater, and her fiance Caledon Hockley who she is being forced to marry by her mother. After her father’s death, she was left with nothing so her mother wants her to marry rich.

While on the Titanic, Jack and Rose meet when Rose was trying to jump off the ship because she didn’t want to marry her fiance. She wanted Jack to be rewarded for saving her life, so her fiance invited him to eat with them in the dining area for first-class passengers. After dinner, Jack and Rose decided to hang out without her fiance’s permission. They started to realize that they were gaining feelings for each other. Her fiance and mother didn’t like this at all for different reasons. They tried to keep them apart as much as possible but failed to do so. This led to the iconic scene of Jack and Rose kissing on the bow of the boat at sunset.

Since Jack was an artist, he decided to draw a picture of her wearing “the Heart of The Ocean” necklace, but her fiance found the picture. They then ran off together and promised to be together when the ship arrived in New York.

The Titanic hit an iceberg which resulted in it collapsing. When the ship collapsed, everyone fell into the 28-degree ocean. Jack found Rose a door to float on as people called for help. She told Jack that she would never let go of him, but he ended up freezing to death. When she let go, his body sank and help arrived.

Director and actors

Titanic was directed, written, produced, and co-edited by Canadian filmmaker James Francis Cameron. He was inspired to make Titanic because of his fascination with shipwrecks. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio as Jack Dawson and Kate Winslet as Rose DeWitt Bukater, this romance makes you want the love these characters had for each other.

Review

Titanic is the perfect Valentine’s Day movie that gets you in a romantic mood. The director really knew how to combine the romance and historic moments into one big masterpiece. The ending was really unexpected even though most should know that the Titanic sank. This movie also does cover some great historic facts like the way people used to dress, how the ship sank etc.

The way Jack and Rose fell in love and fought for each other really gives people the idea of true love. They met on a boat, both in different classes, and still managed to stay together. Back in 1912, this was not common at all. Usually, people wanted to be with people within the same class. James Cameron showed that love has no boundaries and you shouldn’t love someone only for their money.

Depending on how you feel on Valentine’s Day, this movie will either make you crave love or hate it.
